Funky and Fun Wine Label Designs for Personalities That Don’t Do Boring

Some people would rather get nothing than get beige. What’s in the Funky range?

The Funky range runs from Funky 01 to Funky 16. They sort into five rough looks.

Animal print. Funky 03 frames a white panel in snow leopard print. Funky 06 does the same in black and white zebra stripes. Funky 07 puts a black centre inside a leopard print border, with the name in flowing script.

Party. Funky 04 is a burst of confetti and curling streamers on white. Funky 05 scatters multicoloured confetti across black, the night-out version of the same idea. Funky 01 and Funky 02 use big white polka dots, on soft blue and on bright teal.

Dark and dramatic. Funky 08 is black marble with white veining. Funky 12 sets a black panel inside streaks of rainbow light. Funky 13 sets a black panel with a thin red edge on white, framed by sprays of pine needles drawn in black ink. Funky 16 is plain black with a sprig of red-orange leaves in one corner.

Colour and texture. Funky 10 has peacock feathers curling into two corners of a white label. Funky 11 is a pastel swirl that looks almost like a seashell. Funky 14 is bright orange with an autumn leaf border, and Funky 15 frames a warm cream panel with white pine cones and pine needles on copper.

Room for a photo. Funky 09 is black with a photo panel set between two outlined hearts, built for a couple.

Which funky label suits which personality?

Start with the person, not the occasion. Picture their wardrobe, their lounge room or the way they talk at a party, then pick the design that sounds like them.

• The one who owns more animal print than plain black: Funky 03, 06 or 07. Leopard for bold, zebra for graphic, snow leopard if they like it slightly cooler.
• The life of the party: Funky 04 or 05. Confetti on white for a daytime celebration, confetti on black for the person who stays until the lights come on.
• The quietly stylish one: Funky 08’s black marble or Funky 16’s sprig of leaves. Still not boring, just not loud about it.
• The colour lover: Funky 14’s orange and autumn leaves, or Funky 10’s peacock feathers.
• The playful one: the polka dots of Funky 01 and 02 suit a milestone birthday that should feel fun rather than formal.

Would they rather laugh?

Some personalities are less about style and more about the joke. The Humorous range puts the punchline on the bottle, with labels such as:

• That’s it!! I Need a Wine for the friend who has had that kind of week.
• Old Fart Turns 40 and Old Tart Turns 40 for the milestone birthday they pretend not to mind.
• Teacher’s Reviver for the end of term.
• Nurse’s Drop for the one who has just finished a run of night shifts.

A humorous label works best between people who already share the joke. Sent to someone you don’t know well, it can land flat.

How to write the message so it sounds like them

A loud label with a stiff message feels like a mismatch. Let the words carry the same personality as the design.

• Keep it short. Labels are small. One line they can read at a glance beats a paragraph nobody finishes.
• Use their language. If they call their birthday “the annual festival”, put that on the label.
• Aim for one specific reference. A nickname, an in-joke or a place you both know makes the bottle theirs rather than generic.
• Check every letter. Ask for the label design to be emailed to you before printing, and read the name and date out loud.

When does a funky label work best?

Funky labels suit any occasion where the person matters more than the formality.

• Milestone birthdays: most of the Funky samples are birthday labels, from an 18th to a 60th.
• Engagements and weddings: the samples on Funky 09 and Funky 11 are wedding labels, for couples who would rather not go traditional.
• Retirement: the sample on Funky 16 reads “Congratulations on your Retirement”.
• Just because: a bottle with their name on it, in a print that is so obviously them, needs no occasion at all.
